10 Badass Self-Investments for Growth, Joy, and Fulfillment

Soaring through the life you want!

Upon opening my social media, I saw a post about expensive perfumes. Normally, I bypass things like this, but I paused after noticing its caption:

maturing is realising that expensive perfume is always worth the price

I remember a time when I would respond to something like this and say, “Psh, my pockets aren’t built that way” or “I 'd rather get some $5 roll on oil from the hustler on the subway” --well, if I had to be honest, I still love me some oil fragrances.

However, I’m not in that head space anymore. No longer tethered to a mindset of self-deprecation or limiting beliefs, I've come to appreciate my own worth and the importance of investing in the things that truly bring me joy. It's a journey of self-love and growth. With that, here are 10 meaningful investments I plan to make, both for my personal development and to check off of my bucket list:

#1 Perfume

Very Good Girl by Carolina Herrera

After stumbling upon that post, I dove into a cyber quest for my OG fragrances—Bora Bora, Burberry Brit, and a couple of other nostalgic picks. And then, I stumbled upon this mesmerizing one that's packaged in a sleek stiletto-shaped bottle. I mean, who wouldn't want a fragrance that doubles as a statement piece for their vanity?

Perfume, for me, has always been the epitome of luxury, love, and unapologetic sex appeal. As I navigate this journey of self-love and growth, I've realized these scents, strutting their stuff in these killer bottles, are more than just fragrances. They're the bold accomplices in my confidence-boosting arsenal. It's not just about smelling good; it's about exuding a vibe that matches my evolving sense of self-assurance.

#2 Quirky Clothing

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting me face-to-face or catching a glimpse of my offbeat adventures on video, then you might not fully grasp the extent of my oddball, quirky essence! I'm your whimsical unicorn with a lot to say, but thanks to life's unpredictable twists, my wardrobe has taken a detour away from the realm of pomp and circumstance.

My goal is to add some pieces to my wardrobe that exude the badass unicorn that I am—a montage of outfits that adds seasoning to my essence. I want to buy outfits with boho flair, retro elegance, and vintage nostalgia. I love some 1920s–50s ensembles!

In addition, I want to add fun and whimsical attire like witchy eclectic, character-related, and onsies, definitely more onesies!

#3 Learn Another Language

While this list isn’t in any particular order, one of the main things I want to accomplish is learning Italian.

Italy has been a place I’ve wanted to visit and possibly live for a very long time. Not only for their renowned pasta dishes but their culture and romantic language. Hearing this sexy lingo has set my heart a flame, so much so that I want to better know its verbiage.

#4 Creating a Magazine

Owning a business has been something I’ve dreamed of since watching shows with men in suits, drinking coffee behind large oak desks, and running large corporations. I wanted to be in charge of something and run it my way; a leader in an industry that gave me life.

As I got older, the appeal to be that type of business owner portrayed on those particular shows quickly fizzled due to the sexism, misrepresentation of leadership, and the fact that I’m not your sit-behind-a-desk kind of diva -- at least, not a typical one.

This is when shows like Living Single and Sex and the City came along. A group of independent women finding their way through life and seizing it with passion.

Living Single

The appeal and energy of these ladies lingered, and the urge to be uniquely me soared. I was intrigued by the character roles of Kadija James (Queen Latifah) and Carry Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) who unexpectedly became my character crushes and role models for writing.

Owning a magazine has been one of the ultimate milestones I wish to achieve before I roll off this planet. Writing is in my veins and utilizing this gift to share vulnerable stories, fun energy, and reflective points is the frosting of a massive cake. Could S. Nicole Midlife Living be it?

#5 Travel the Globe

Personally, I want this header to read "Travel the Galaxy" but I guess I'll leave that to Star-Lord and the Guardians. However, I've always wanted to travel, so much so that I daydream about hopping on a plane regularly.

Places like Dubai, the many castles in Lake Thun, Switzerland, and of course Positano Village in Italy are among many hidden and well-known gems I want to experience and explore. Look out world, here I come!

#6 Be a Part of a Theatre Production

While I'm known for unleashing my vocal prowess and dishing out animated wisdom in my videos, here's a little secret – I've got a serious acting bug.

Picture this: strutting my stuff on stage in a theatre production that's got the same wild energy as Hamilton or the rebellious vibe of Grease. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a Broadway enthusiast, and while Cats and Wicked are cool, those heavy costumes and layers of makeup are not my style. I'm envisioning myself, center stage, belting out killer verses alongside a stellar cast. It's not just about the singing; it's about owning the spotlight, creating a buzz, and, of course, that epic moment to take a bow.

#7 Singing

As I said, I love singing and while I'm no Nina Simone or Whitney I feel I can hold a note or two. Would you believe this is the first time I've admitted that?

I've always joked around with singing, either with a mini quick note or shying adlib but I've never done a full rendition publicly. But, after accidentally sharing a video practicing some scales, I want to take this interest more seriously and execute something harmonious. I guess it's time to inquire about some vocal lessons.

#8 Write a Book

Technically writing a book has already happened with my e-book, The Day I Made the Devil Laugh, but it's not quite what I mean when I say "I want to write a book".

As you already know, writing is my life's vein but my passion is more so in romance and fiction. I love creating stories about how individuals connect or how a dragon and a dinosaur become best friends because my imagination is lit.

Utilizing the many caverns of my imagination for writing is like sugar to tea, it doesn't get much sweeter. So writing a book that captivates my whimsical noggin is like a sugar factory! For an example of this check out the Weilder's Stone.

#9 Body Paint and Portrait

Body Art

Now, I know what I just said about steering clear of heavy makeup for those theatre costumes, but there's always an exception to the rule, right?

Here's the unexpected deal, I've got this wild idea to have my bare canvas painted in a riot of colors, forming an incredible design or picture, and then capturing it in the largest photograph imaginable! It's a call to my untamed side, my inner vixen, and all that fairy energy.

Consider this the statement of all statements, a bold addition to my bucket list of quirky unicorn indulgences. Because breaking the rules is the best kind of self-expression.

#10 Hosting a Friendsgiving

Having a Friendsgiving has been something I've wanted to do since watching How I Met Your Mother but with elegance. Yes, I'm dabbling into my bougie bag. I want it to be an all-white affair on a charted yacht or at sunset on a vineyard with my closest friends. Charcuterie boards, an array of delicacies--not necessarily caviar, lol-- and all the wine we want. An evening full of laughs, dancing, nostalgia, and more.

Anywho, that's only a fraction of my unicorn bucket list of things I want to achieve and experience this next leg of my life. But tell me, what's on your list? Drop me a comment below!

Until next time readers, have fun with life!

Honorable Mentions:
